Synopsis by Nathan Southern
As the title implies, this documentary provides a biographical portrait of the musician widely regarded as the most relevant and influential in all of 20th century popular music - The King himself, Elvis Presley. It intercuts elements such as rarely-seen archival footage and interviews with Priscilla Presley, Colonel Tom Parker and many of Presley's female co-stars in Hollywood features. The film undertakes a chronological approach, beginning with Presley's childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi, through his initial rise to fame and glory, his triumphant resurgence in popularity circa 1969; his final, bittersweet decade; and his death from an overdose at age 42 in August 1977.
