When Tom has had just a little bit too much of his middle-aged responsibilities, fraught with worry about bills and deadlines, he takes off on a wild-goose chase to find his long-lost female cat -- that goes by the name of Elvis. The affection he received from that cat was the last uncomplicated relationship in his life. After he tracks down the cat, recently deceased and abandoned in the apartment of a mentally ill ex-girlfriend, he goes into a state of grieving his bygone life and the cat's demise; once they find him again, his wife and friends forgive him these eccentricities.
