The Opernhaus Zürich mounted this production of Richard Strauss's 1909 opera Elektra in late 2005; the rendition glimpsed herein was cut together from two separate performances on November 30th and December 4th of that year. Strauss adapted the work from Hugo von Hoffmansthal's 1903 stage drama of the same name, which von Hoffmansthal, in turn, adapted from the seminal Greek tragedy. This version stars Marjana Lipovsek as Klytamnestra, Eva Johansson as Elektra, Melanie Diener as Chrysothemis and Rudolf Schasching as Aegisth. The Chorus of the Opernhaus Zürich (under the leadership of chorus master Ernst Raffelsberger) and the Orchester der Oper Zürich (under the baton of conductor Christoph von Dohnányi) provide musical accompaniment.
