Synopsis by Mark Deming

In 1975, five guys from the Canvey Island neighborhood of Essex put together a pub rock band, but while they embraced the no-frills philosophy of fellow pub rockers like Brinsley Schwarz and Ducks Deluxe, they played with a stripped-down and speedy ferocity like fellow Essex rockers Dr. Feelgood. Calling themselves Eddie and the Hot Rods, the group soon became the key link between the pub rockers and the early British punks who would turn the music business upside down. In fact, the Hot Rods spent a few years as the toast of the British rock scene. Eddie and the Hot Rods: Do Anything You Wanna Do is a concert video shot in 1996 which finds original vocalist Barry Masters and a new backing band still kicking out the same kind of passionate, beer-drinking R&B that made the group living legends. Songs include "Teenage Depression," "Get Out of Denver," "Do Anything You Wanna Do," "Beginning of the End," "Alive," "Telephone Girl," and many more.
