Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Helma Sanders-Brahms directs this West German television production about two young lovers who risk it all to be together. When handsome Jeronimo (Victor Alcazar) is hired to tutor rich heiress Josefa (Julia Pena), the sparks quickly fly and the pair falls in love. But their romance is short-lived when the church condemns their relationship and locks Josefa away in a convent. Upon discovering that Josefa is pregnant, church officials sentence her to death by decapitation. This only intensifies Jeronimo's determination to recue his lover, though the odds of a happy ending decrease substantially when he is captured and imprisoned. Later, a powerful earthquake strikes the city, and the two young lovers forge on into an uncertain fate.
