Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Emmy Wehlan stars as Clover, the orphaned niece of a dictatorial maiden aunt. Treated as mere hired help, Clover is forced to cook and clean for the tenants of Auntie's boarding house. In her precious few spare moments, she is able to sneak a few quick peeks of her favorite novel, "The Duchess of Doubt," wherein the low-born heroine passes herself off as a noblewoman. Inspired by this, Clover decides to improve her own miserable lot by pretending to be a lady of wealth and position. In this guise, she is ardently courted by an abundance of millionaires, while a handsome young ribbon-counter clerk is unable to make any headway with the girl. When Clover is exposed as a fraud, she is summarily abandoned by her suitors -- except for the indefatigable clerk, who turns out to be a wealthy man in disguise!
