Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
A series of bold and unusually tidy daytime burglaries leave Sgt. Joe Friday (Jack Webb) perplexed due to a complete lack of clues. Soon realizing that each of the victims had been away from their home due to an event that had been announced in the local newspaper (weddings, funerals, etc.), the burglar had obviously been taking advantage of this public information and it isn't long before Friday and Gannon (Harry Morgan) capture a suspect who refuses to admit his guilt. Subsequently interrogating the cocky suspect back at the station, Friday and Gannon grow increasingly suspicious as the suspect continues to boast of his skills while denying involvement with the rest of the burglaries, insisting that his being caught was a fluke. Ever the quick thinker, Friday tricks the suspect into implicating himself by playing on his pride and noting that if he were indeed so good, he never would have been caught. As the suspect begins to brag about his long string of accomplishments, it soon becomes very clear that they have captured the right man.
