Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Hitting the streets on a rainy evening for the night beat, Sgt. Joe Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan) soon find their slate full as they embark on a busy night of work. Between a runaway boy fresh off the bus from New York City, a teen who had ingested some dangerous drugs, an abandoned baby, and an immigrant maid from Costa Rica who recently wed despite the objection of her employer, it seems as if the harried lawmen have their hands full. A tearful telephone conversation between the runaway and his mother hints that things may not be as bad as they seem, and though the drugged-out teen receives a stern talking-to from his angry father (Robert Clarke), Friday eventually convinces the disgruntled dad to take his son home. Addressing the issue of the secretly married immigrant maid, Friday suggests that her employer may consider petitioning to have the marriage annulled. When the abandoned baby's mentally unstable mother arrives and admits to doubts concerning her nurturing abilities, she is quickly ordered into psychiatric care.
