Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
When Sgt. Joe Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan) are assigned to assist in increasing the minority presence within the police force, they enlist the aid of black policeman Dave Evans (Don Marshall). Scouting an East L.A. school for potential recruits, the trio speaks to a number of candidates (including a young O.J. Simpson in a cameo). Later harassed by his neighbors for supposedly catering to the white establishment, Evans resigns from the police force. Only after breaking up a heated fight in a florist shop does he realize that his natural abilities for diffusing tense situations makes him all the more valuable to his community as an law enforcement officer.
