Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Sgt. Carl Maxwell (John Lupton), a veteran LAPD officer of 12 years, suddenly goes missing and it seems that he has simply fallen off the face of the earth. In his absence, the prospect that he will be called before a trial board and dismissed grows increasingly likely, prompting Sgt. Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Gannon (Harry Morgan) to set out and find the formerly reliable cop. Despite only having two days to do so, the determined duo soon tracks Maxwell to an out-of-town ski resort thanks to a helpful tip from his brother and sister-in-law. Upon contacting Maxwell, Friday and Gannon discover that the sudden death of his wife and some troubles at work have driven the grieving widower into a fit of booze-soaked self-pity. Reminded by Friday of his responsibilities to the community and the fact that, until this point, he has been a model cop, Maxwell picks himself up and dusts himself off, determined to return to the force and make the best of his situation.
