Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
This whimsical Russian feature takes a critical look at the Russian class struggles. The film is initially set aboard a luxury liner filled with wealthy passenger enjoying a leisurely vacation. Suddenly a young woman, Lilian jumps overboard. Carl, an engineer who perhaps just committed a murder, follows her. Simons, the policeman who pursues Carl, also dives in. Much of the story focuses upon the trio's conversations as they tread water and watch the boat sail away. They talk about their life stories, disappointments and pain. A barge comes along, and the board her. Lilian and Carter find themselves drawn to each other. Simons is left out. Upon the rusty scow they find a barrel of wine. Initially they all have a good time. Rape and a murder ensue.
