Co-written and directed by Diego Ongaro, real-life rapper Freddie Gibbs portrays Money Merc, a successful rap star who’s currently battling the negative side of fame: social media pressures of self-presentation, capitalist forces breathing down his neck to produce an equally lucrative next album, and an unspoken yet obvious rivalry from an up-and-coming young rap talent, among other things. To give himself the chance to breathe, he escapes it all by staying in a small-town farming community where he tries to find himself again in the hopes of staying true to his artistic persona.
