Dokomademo Ikou (Don't Look Back) focuses on two ten-year-olds exploring the world of childhood in an amusing and lighthearted way. Akira and Kouichi are a little bit mischievous, which gets them into a lot of trouble. But the joys and sorrows of life are there for them to experience before they can become adults. Observing the daily lives of the two boys, we get a good picture of Japanese society today, particularly the loneliness of the people, regardless of age. This film is intended as a lyrical and poetic counterpart to the director's first film, Gekko No Sasayaki, which was rather pornographic. The film was shown in the Filmmakers of the Present section of the 1999 Locarno International Film Festival.
