Synopsis by Robert Firsching

This standard melodrama from Hong Kong director David Lam casts Mark Cheng as Wong Man-tsun, a hardworking intern who often crosses paths with the officious administrator of the hospital at which he works. The administrator, Lawrence Chu (Simon Yam), causes Wong to fail his medical exam, so he pretends to be a doctor while continuing his internship so he doesn't disappoint his father, who was a doctor himself when the family lived on the mainland. While going about his duties, Wong meets and falls for the beautiful social worker Anita (Michelle Lee), whom he doesn't know is actually Dr. Chu's girlfriend. Wong gets drunk at a Christmas party and makes a fool of Chu, who sends him down to the hospital morgue as punishment. Fortuitously, Wong notices that one of the bodies in the morgue isn't really dead, and manages to revive him. Naturally, Chu takes credit for Wong's miraculous feat, upsetting Anita so much that she rejects his offer of marriage. This sets up the soap-opera finale, in which Anita's brain tumor needs to be removed in a delicate operation and the scorned Chu, who happens to be the only surgeon qualified in the procedure, refuses to perform it. As might be expected, this sets up the medical challenge of Wong's life as he attempts to save Anita himself. Lowell Lo co-stars with a host of familiar actors including Amy Yip, Clifton Ko, and Bill Tung.
