Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This video is the third volume of a five-part series that chronicles the history of America's Civil War. The War Between the States raged from 1861-1865. The South fought fiercely against Northern forces, and won a number of strategic battles over the North, which was weakened by internal strife. But the tide turned against the South after suffering tremendous losses at Gettysburg. Their fate was sealed by the loss of several strategic ports along the Mississippi. This program includes a re-enactment of the Battle of Vicksburg, a crucial victory for the North. Photographs, diaries, and letters tell the story of a nation at war.
