Synopsis by Bhob Stewart
This Italian television documentary (produced by Milan's pay cable network Telepiu) offers five separate segments, each running about 20 minutes, on five film directors -- Michael Mann, Arthur Penn, Robert Altman, Sydney Pollack, and Roger Corman. Altman was interviewed by author-actor-director Bob Balaban in Savannah, Georgia, while Altman was filming John Grisham's The Gingerbread Man (1998). This documentary is a follow-up to Telepiu's Director Portraits (1986), profiles of Italian film directors. Shown at the 1997 Locarno Film Festival.
