Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Richard Wagner's 1870 Die Walküre - also known as "The Valkyrie" and the second installment in the Ring of the Nibelung tetralogy - sees the warrior Wotan (guided by the goddess Brunnhilde) and the dwarf sorcerer Alberich stealing the ring from Fafner the Dragon. Christoph Nel directed a production of this work at the Staatsoper Stuttgart from late 2002 through early 2003. The home video release of this production actually combines footage from two separate performances - on September 29, 2002 and January 2, 2003. The cast features Robert Gambill as Siegmund, Attila Jun as Hunding, Jan-Hendrik Rootering as Wotan, and Renata Behle as Brunnhilde.
