Synopsis by Mark Deming
Mozart's witty opera of romance, melodrama and misunderstanding, gets an unusual staging in this production, as director Hans Neuenfels casts two performers in each leading role -- an actor and a vocalist, who not only split the onstage duties but interact with one another through the performance. Emanuela Von Frankenberg, Carola Freiwald, and Alexander Bogner head up the vocal cast, while Catherine Naglestad, Kate Ladner, and Matthias Klink are the dramatic leads. Mozart: Die Entfuhrung Aus Dem Serail also features Lothar Zagrosek leading the Chorus and Orchestra of the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
