Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Set in a small Austrian village just as the Germans invade in the spring of 1938, this wartime drama by Dieter Berner is the fifth and last film in a series on Austria in the first half of the 20th Century. The series was produced for Austrian television. In this story a young woman, her brother, and her parents are part of a farming community and like many others are not fully aware of what Hitler has in mind, what his war machine means, and what heinous crimes against humanity underlie his military campaign. The young man in the family runs off to join the resistance fighters but his sister's fiancee is a Nazi supporter. As she desperately searches for her brother who has been arrested, she slowly gains a more complete understanding of the full impact of the invasion. Her transformation and the effects of the invasion on her family and fiancee are microcosms that illustrate the larger picture.
