This Mongolian film represents an adaptation of a popular 1934 Mongolian opera. A blend of dialog, songs and gorgeous costumes, the story, which takes place in the early 20th-century, follows the betrothal of Yunden and his love Nansalmaa. The vixen Khorolmaa, wants Yunden for herself and cons Balgan, a nobleman, into marrying Nansalmaa. He steals her away to his palace where she is rescued by Yunden. They die during the escape.
