Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

Part eight of the nine-part Destination America video series, this documentary covers the story of the British immigrants in America. The British who came to the United States were looking to make a better life than they could make in Britain, for themselves, and their families. Many went to the states of Wisconsin, California, Colorado, and Michigan to become copper and tin workers. The textile mill laborers went to Massachusetts and the Welsh immigrants found homes in Pennsylvania. This video contains interviews with some of the descendants of the original British immigrants, who talk of their relatives' experiences in coming to America. Viewers learn that many British still harbored resentment towards the United States after the Revolutionary War. Some of the immigrants who went to America, the former English colonies, were looked upon as traders. The interviews and pictures shown capture the hardships, triumphs, and prosperities of these British-Americans.
