Synopsis by Mark Deming

Filmmaker Amit Goren explores the past and the future of Tel Aviv in this deeply personal documentary. By his own word, Goren has been capturing the world around him with his camera since he was thirteen, and he felt all the more encouraged to keep his video camera at the ready when he learned his wife was pregnant with triplets. Goren and his wife had been trying to have a baby for some time, and succeeded only after a round of fertility treatments; they were told this was a high-risk pregnancy and the mother-to-be was advised to stay home at rest for the final five months before giving birth. Goren spent as much time with her as possible, and while chronicling their life at home, he began regularly filming the view from their apartment's balcony, which overlooks one of Tel Aviv's most historic streets, Rothschild Boulevard. Dear Edmond moves back and forth between thee couple's difficult path to parenthood, the history of Tel Aviv, and what place Goren's children may some day take in the Israeli city. Dear Edmond was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
