Synopsis by Alice Day

At a time when it was virtually unheard of for women in India to be in the profession of photojournalism, Homai Vyarawalla was at the forefront of events involving some of the most famous names in the world. She took photographs of Jackie Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth, Ho Chi Minh, Gandhi, Eisenhower, Martin Luther King, and the Dalai Lama. When she perceived that members of the press were becoming rude in their pursuit of subjects, she quit. Later, thinking her work was not of any worth, she burned most of her negatives.
