One of the first magical girl anime titles, Cutey Honey is a tongue-in-cheek series about a girl whose scientist father has created an invention giving her the power to change into different identities, complete with new powers and altered appearances. Honey uses her ability in order to fight crime and wrongdoing, always with a coquettish flair and plenty of humor. Cutey Honey is full of ecchi, and is considered by some to border on softcore pornography, however, the deliberately naughty material in Cutey Honey is rarely insidious in nature and is considered by most to be intentionally self-effacing, ironic and, cute. Honey is markedly precocious for a female hero, especially for early standards. Her attitude is said to be very ahead of its time.
