Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This video is one of a five-part series based on General Dwight D. Eisenhower's memoirs of World War II. Originally produced for television broadcast in 1949, the series chronicles the military and diplomatic strategies in the European Theater of the war campaign. General Eisenhower also talks on the psychological effects of the war. Although he had only limited battlefield experience, Eisenhower was chosen to lead the war in Europe for America because of his diplomacy skills and ability to encourage leadership in others and delegate responsibilities to them. This volume covers the implementation of the strategy to secure Northern Africa as a staging point for the assault on Italy.
