Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Cable TV responded to the gathering clouds of war in the early months of 2003 with a whole new crop of military documentaries. One of these was the semi-dramatized Discovery Channel offering Covert Action. Using actual footage and re-enactments, the series chronicled the behind-the-scenes stories of famous and infamous undercover operations throughout the world. Whenever possible, professional peacekeepers were seen in the dramatic segment: In one episode, for example, municipal police officers were hired to play the members of a military SWAT team. Covert Action debuted February 27, 2003.
