Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Though little known and seldom discussed, the concerto grosso constitutes a form of baroque classical music, originating in the 17th Century, in which musical exchanges are handed back and forth between a full symphony orchestra and a small, tightly-knit group of soloists. As originally shot in October 1986, this performance film includes renditions of virtually all the concerti grossi authored by the originator of the form, composer Arcangelo Corelli, here played by the orchestra I Solisti Veneti. Featured soloists include Marco Fornaciari and Guy Touvron.
