Synopsis by Brian Whitener
What would a video produced by a machine look like? Ralph Hocking's Complex Wave Forms, a video made without camera input, answers this question. Composed entirely of imagery from inside the machine, it looks otherworldly because it is. Within the images, there's a resonance with organic processes such as light burns on film or retinal image decay. There's color unlike any other seen on video. Deep midnight blue, ocre fading into a red-orange, white that moves thru red, blue, green, in the subtlest of chromatic permutations.
