Review by Hans J. Wollstein

You shall not soon forget the awesome sight of a brave Kay Francis leaving behind the glamour of Broadway in favor of being reunited with her husband, who is about to be released after seven long years in the slammer. There she is, valiantly trudging along a deserted highway, her formerly estranged daughter by her side and head held high. Bette Davis reportedly turned down the chance to play heroic Eve Appleton (get it?) in Comet Over Broadway and second-choice Miriam Hopkins feigned illness. Francis was apparently next in line, but she was being punished for a series of box-office failures and the drama was rerouted to Bryan Foy's B-unit. Which of course merely means that instead of spending an hour and a half going from flighty salesgirl to prima donna to saint, Kay Francis and her audience only have to endure 69 minutes or so.
