Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur

French filmmaker Étienne Sauret directs the documentary Collateral Damages, a companion piece to WTC: The First 24 Hours. For over a year, Sauret conducted interviews with survivors from the New York Fire Department. Billy and Al are members of Engine 6, the fire station closest to the World Trade Center. Billy is the only surviving member of the team that climbed up the North Tower. Captain Ruvolo and Pete are members of Rescue 2, a special group of firefighters trained to respond to disasters. The team lost an entire crew on the morning of September 11th. The firefighters discuss the realities of their emotional trauma while, at the same time, being canonized as macho heroes by various media. Collateral Damages premiered at the SilverDocs Film Festival in 2003.
