Synopsis
This video, produced by the United States Capitol Historical Society, tells the story of the founding, building, and evolution of Washington, D.C., from forest into the bustling capital city of today. The film employs the resources of the historical society's collection -- including daguerreotypes, prints, historic documents, and photographs -- to trace the metamorphosis of a cow town in the woods to a sophisticated center of American power. Aerial photography gives the viewer the big picture of the lay of the land that was once a wilderness on the frontier of America.
