Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Noted Vietnamese director Viet Linh helms this film about a decade of change in a Saigon tenement. Opening with the 1975 reunification of the country, the film focuses on old janitor Tham. Through his eyes, we observe the building's inhabitants, including a levelheaded cadre member, the niece of the former proprietor, and a dogmatic revolutionary. As the country digs itself out of the ruins of the war, the building's denizens change as more consumer goods become available. Only the elderly Tham clings to traditional values. Building was screened at the 1999 Pusan Film Festival.
