Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

The old codgers, men and women, often gather in a nearby abandoned Bulgarian village to jaw about the old days. In their case, this means the First World War. One particularly persistent old braggart, nicknamed "the Cock," has a humorous brawl with another old fellow, who has chosen, after all these years, to disbelieve him. Perhaps he has only grown weary of his tales. When his wife, quite ill, begs him to forgive her for an indiscretion of youth with the man he brawled with, he finds it a difficult bone to chew. When he dies unexpectedly before her, his wife recovers sufficiently to see him decently buried. His tales are missed in the old village.
