Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
After the Danish military gave up its barracks in the middle of the city of Copenhagen, an area filled with lush greenery, the city was slow to declare its plans for the area. Impatient with the "establishment," a group of radical youths took up residence in the old barracks and declared the area "The Free City of Christiania." Astonishingly, the group remained there peaceably and successfully for a number of years. This documentary, which is heavy on political agit-prop and short on factual content, makes some efforts to chronicle the squatters' lives. One of the highlights of this film is a short animated segment, which offers an amusing commentary on the whole situation.
