Cosgrove-Hall's 1976 follow-up to Jamie and the Magic Torch, Chorlton & The Wheelies saw the Manchester based production team move from cell animation to vibrant stop-motion model animation with this 10-minute show that featured some of the weirdest characters to have graced children's television since The Magic Roundabout. Fenella (the evil witch who lives in the Sadlands in a kettle called Spout Hall) cannot stand happiness and in attempt to destroy its return casts a spell on the once colourful and peaceful land of Wheeldom below her, leaving it cold and barren. The inhabitants (three wheeled, half-motorbike, half-human "Wheelies") are helpless under the witches' wrath until the appearance of a strange brightly coloured egg, which hatches a small, friendly dragon, who somehow breaks the curse and unknowingly protects the citizens from the witch and her multifarious schemes. Chorlton (as he soon becomes known) is somewhat dim and completely unaware he's made an enemy with the witch (whom he civilly refers to as "Li'l old lady").
