Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Evidently Japanese in origin, the animated feature Choppy and the Princess didn't get much play in the US when it was first made available in 1973. Only after the Showtime Cable service picked up the film in 1985 did American "anime" fans get a glimpse of this second-echelon actioner. Choppy may get top billing, but the bulk of the action is carried by the Princess. In order to wrest her throne away from usurpers, the royal heroine disguises herself as a boy. In traditional Japanamation fashion, the characters' eyes are all as wide as saucers, and their teeth seem to have grown together into one huge rack of calcium.
