Synopsis by Cammila Collar
Hideki Motosuwa has spent his entire life working on a farm and dreaming of one day moving to the big city for college. His dreaming screeches to a halt, however, when he isn't accepted. Undaunted, Hideki decides to move to the city anyway and take college prep classes so that he can reapply. As soon as he arrives in the city, he is bombarded with the newest craze in technology: persacoms. These personal computers look, walk, talk and act like lovely women--and Hideki is desperate to have one. As a poor student, he can't possibly afford one, but then one night, he finds an abandoned persacom lying in an ally. When he takes her home, he discovers that not only does she have no operating system installed, but she does not appear to have been made by any known manufacturer. He names her Chi, as this is all she can say, and as they spend more time together, Hideki begins to question just where Chi came from. She learns how to speak and act by interacting with Hideki and, despite knowing better, Hideki can't help but wonder if Chi is one of the mysterious Chobits persacoms: the persacoms of urban legend that were made with the ability to learn, think and love.
