Synopsis by Alice Day
In this first of a series of three films documenting the economic and political development of China, the fall of the last emperor begins a series of struggles between opposing political factions. In China: A Century of Revolution - China in Revolution, 1911-1949, the Communist Party and the Nationalist Party are shown engaging in a rivalry that brought out two powerful foes, Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek. Allies at first, then bitter enemies, they battled in a civil war eventually won by the Communists in 1949. Thus began the leadership of Chairman Mao.
