Synopsis by Betsy Boyd
Part of a video series which investigates the sculptor Dale Chihuly's specific modes of working, Chihuly: River of Glass documents the wide range of glass sculpture that embodies Chihuly's "Chihuly Over Venice" project. The video transports viewers to Nuutajarvi, Finland, for a glass-blowing session; to Waterford, Ireland, for the creation of green spears; to Mexico, where Chihuly makes iridescent blossoms bloom; and then to Venice for a feast of faceted crystal. Interviews with Chihuly and his team shed light on the glass master's creative process, which involves drawing, designing, and careful communication.
