The most interesting aspect of this otherwise humdrum Western is an early appearance by Mikel Conrad (not to be confused with Michael Conrad from The Flying Saucer in 1950). As for the star of the film, Eddie Dean may not be everyone's idea of a cowboy hero, but "God's Little Lantern," a beautiful ballad he wrote himself, proves that he was second-to-none when it came to vocal ability. According to an onscreen credit, Check Your Guns was produced by "the new PRC," but the ramshackle sets and the dull scenery differ little from the old.
