Chava Alberstein in Song

Synopsis by Kathryn Tamms
Chava Alberstein is often considered "The First Lady of Israeli Song." As Israel's most accomplished singer, she has released close to 50 recordings since the late '60s. She sings about both love and politics in philosophically haunting melodies full of passion and deep in tradition, while combining such diverse musical forms as contemporary folk, pop, rock, jazz, cabaret, worldbeat, and klezmer. In this music video, Alberstein is joined by clowns, pantomimists, and actors as she sings songs of love and yearning, as well as a lullaby and a tribute to Edith Piaf.
