Synopsis by Alice Day
The origins of the Hawaiian Islands are discussed in Challenge of the Seas, Vol. 5: Peddling Paradise. Host Ted Danson, president of the American Oceans Campaign, offers an informative program examining the volcanic activity that produced the island chain. There is film footage of the continuing activity on the islands as lava flows change the landscape. Problems arise as more and more people inhabit the islands and upset the balance of nature. This environmental series is well-suited for students in intermediate grades on through high school.
