Synopsis by Alice Day
Gray whales were once the target of whale hunters, who almost wiped out the entire species. With conservation efforts, the number of whales has been increasing, and their future is more promising. In Challenge of the Seas, Vol. 21: The Whales That Came Back, host Ted Danson talks about their annual migration from the Chukchi and Bering Sea near the Arctic to Baja, CA, a journey of some 5,000 miles. They travel along coastlines, and are the subject of whale-watching boats. In the more temperate waters of Baja, they gather for breeding purposes.
