Synopsis by Alice Day

The problems that confront the oceans have an impact on other animals that depend on the seas for survival. A large number of birds, including pelicans, comorants, frigate birds, ospreys, peregrine falcons, and blue-footed and brown boobies, prey on fish and other sea creatures. Between the Baja Peninsula and Mexico lies the Sea of Cortez, home to many species of marine mammals. In Challenge of the Seas, Vol. 16: Birds of Cortez, students will learn how overfishing impacts the population of birds. As supplies of food are depleted, the numbers of birds diminish as well.
