The Century: Events That Shaped the World is the excellent 12-part ABC News production hosted by Peter Jennings that explores the many events and personalities that colored the 20th century. Drawing from thousands of hours of archival footage as well as interviews, this series draws the viewer in with its compelling presentation. In Ultimate Power: Evil Rising, Jennings tries to untangle the unlikely rise to power of a misfit Austrian of little means -- Adolf Hitler. This program traces the steps and missteps that occurred along the way, including Hitler's stint in the German military, his imprisonment after the botched Beer Hall Putsch, and his eventual ascendancy to chancellor.
