In this documentary, the course of daily life in two villages separated by the English Channel is carefully explored. Despite the gulf in cultures, languages and histories, the French and British villagers are shown as holding many values in common. The British villagers are seen to be quieter, the French noisier. Interestingly, the British are seen to be closer to their womenfolk than the French, who show a marked misogynistic bent. The British villagers are more given to highly organized activities, the French are more prone to enjoy happily anarchic gatherings. One highlight of the film is when the residents of each village are given a chance to view footage of life in the other. Their comments and jokes are at least as illuminating as the film footage itself.
