Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Italian belletrist cum adventurer Giacomo di Casanova (1725-98), is known on a scholarly level for documenting the customs of 18th Century European life with remarkable thoroughness and accuracy. But popular culture, of course, has pegged him as history's most infamous and outrageous rascal, who had affairs with hundreds of women in high places and conned a great many aristocrats. Casanova's life has given fodder to many excellect filmmakers including Ettore Scola and Federico Fellini. It receives another incarnation in this epic-length docudrama, which draws equally from historical accounts and Giacomo's own writings to weave its beguiling tale. It stars Tom Frederic in the central role; the supporting cast also includes Patrick Bergin (Love Crimes) and Armand Assante (Private Benjamin).
