The contrived script by director Ferdinando Merighi, Ramiro Oliveros, and Marius Mattei (who also produced) is completely off the hook, which fans of the giallo form will be expecting, but those who come to the film cold may be somewhat nonplussed. The slashings and decapitations by makeup artist Carlo Rambaldi (E.T. The Extra-terrestrial) are gory and flamboyant, although there is nothing to match his notorious skinned dog in the previous year's Una Lucertola con la Pelle di Donna, and Bruno Nicolai's score is merely adequate. Genre buffs, however, will enjoy the cast and loopy goings-on, and will note that the film was edited by future cult director Bruno Mattei (Inferno dei Morti-Viventi, KZ 9 -- Lager di Sterminio).
