Synopsis by Emru Townsend
Jack Tenrec has no love for Governor Scharnhorst's new mining piledriver, but he's even less thrilled with the idea of Hammer Terhune getting his hands on it. When he unsuccessfully tries to keep the poacher from stealing it, Jack is found by the Governor's men and tried for theft of city property. At the trial, Noc, the captain of the guard, claims Tenrec was seen helping another old-blood Mechanic make off with the piledriver, and Scharnhorst twists Jack and Hannah's words and past deeds to get an easy conviction. Jack escapes during the drive to the penal colony, and meets up with Hannah and tells her to start searching for the evidence that Noc has suppressed. When Scharnhorst gets word of Jack's escape she sets Brink, the city's top bounty hunter, on his trail. Just as Jack makes progress in his hunt for the poachers, Brink catches up with him, unmoved by Jack's story. Jack and Brink proceed to play cat and mouse, coming ever closer to the poacher compound. Meanwhile, Hannah and Mustapha close in on Noc.
