Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
Directed by Tomas McCabe, Bums' Paradise is a short documentary featuring the otherwise homeless residents of an Albany landfill community before their eviction to locations unknown. Determined to broadcast the story from the "bums'" perspectives, the film is mainly comprised of interviews with the then-tenants. It turns out that not only do they consider the landfill their home -- however unconventional -- but there is a specific protocol amongst the community, as well as art, traditions, music, and "neighborhood" meetings. Bums' Paradise won the award for Best Documentary Short at the Wisconsin Film Festival. .
